Please get me a Lottery Pick in the 2012 NBA Draft!
With the July 1st NBA labor agreement contract deadline, there is much in the air for the near future of the NBA. Many analysts have said that in order for this deadline to be met, negotiations would have to start by the end of the regular season, and with that being about 2 weeks away, it seems clear the the lockout will be evident. Now this uncertain future also raises many questions for the very talented 2011 draft class. Will this lockout mean there will be a bunch of diaper dandies such as Sullinger, and Knight sticking around one more year? Or will a few juniors like Shelvin Mack and Kemba Walker stick around for one more championship run? We do not know exactly what the immediate future is for the NBA, but we do know that in all likely hood a lockout will occur, and time will be missed in the "full" NBA season (including pre-season activities.) Specifically for the rookies, with a lockout, it it likely that time will be missed from summer camps, as well as summer leagues, where it is a great place for rookies to prove they do belong in the league, and also to develop chemistry with the rest of the young guys. It is a tough decision to be made, do you put the millions of dollars on the back burner for one more year? If you do sacrifice this, you have one more year year experiencing what most people call "the best four year's" of their lives. Another shot at a conference championship, and better yet another shot at the big dance, a shot at National greatness. One more year of being the man on campus, and you running the show and calling the shots, where as going to the draft you will have to work your way back into the role that you already worked so hard to get, but it is the NBA right? But it is really a true rookie season, with the lockout looming? These are all tough questions that will have to be answered by these young college athletes in the next upcoming weeks. But all I know is that I sure hope that as many of the college underclassmen stay for one more year as possible, not only for the sake of the NCAA and the quality and competition of college basketball, but also could you imagine how ridiculous the 2012 draft will be if all these players stay for one more year?
